This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #810 Aquila (Eagle), another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. Admittedly, there are no eagles in my haiku; instead I took inspiration from what Chèvrefeuille told us about the Japanese Festival on the 7th of the 7th month Tanabata, together with the haiku written by Basho about the Tanabata Festival, i.e.
Star Festival. On the 7th of Seventh Month, this festival celebrates the legend of the Shepherd Boy and Weaver Girl, represented as two stars, Altair and Vega. These two lovers are doomed to be separated by Heaven’s River (the Milky Way) all year except on this day, when magpies form a bridge with their wings.
