On Brighton Beach

on Brighton beach

I can’t see you anymore

splinters tell the boat

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #1222 Beach, another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Emmylou Harris, the only person on the planet who can wear tasselled gauntlets –

Tempting Waves

tempting waves –

the old boat still needs

a little rest              (© Björn Rudberg)

in dry oars a beetle burrows

but shouldn’t stay          (Blake)

This poem was written for Carpe Diem’s Tan Renga Challenge #62, Björn Rudberg’s “tempting waves”, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. In this challenge a haiku by Björn Rudberg of Björn Rudberg’s Writings was our inspiration and we were asked to take her hokku and add two lines in approximately 7/7 syllables, to create a two-person tanka, a tan renga. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here.
