cast off shell

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Time Travel #2 The Tale of Genji, another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And to finish, here’s Jerry Lee Lewis –
Awesome there is romance in the air Blake.
I must say I thought the imagery of the moonlight on the cast off cicada shell was fairly fragile and tenuous… but one of the great things about haiku is how open it is to interpretation 🙂
Ouch … or perhaps it’s this reader’s (painful) association with cicadas. “Cast off” kinda hit me in the gut. But it’s beautiful imagery 🙂
Thanks, Jen. I agree with your reading. That’s why I didn’t try to get the 1st/3rd switch in place – so as to let the last line have that impact.
It was a good decision. 🙂
