across a dark field
the white cat carries December
snow

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #872 our journey continues: across the field; one patch of a rice field; roots of elegance, another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Stevie Wonder –
Excellent haiku, Sue.
So pleased you liked it 🙂
What an original take on the prompt … I love the image you planted in my mind!
Thanks, Georgia. Heading home from work, the white cat was there, the dark field was there – I just needed to imagine the absent snow 🙂
Now that’s how you write a great haiku …
Stevie!
Love what you’ve done here — I agree with Bastet, this is a wonderful image. As if Basho met Carl Sandburg! Wow…!
Stevie indeed, with one of the great grooves! And on Sesame Street – they don’t makes kids’ programmes like that anymore.
I must admit Carl Sandburg is one of those people I know of, but haven’t read. He’s good? Like…?
It sounds like a very high compliment 🙂
Thanks, Jen.
He’s good; has his own flavor and style … this is the poem I was thinking of: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem/174299
Sesame Street and Electric Company …. two classics from my childhood! Definitely nothing like them anymore.
Very welcome 🙂
Oh I like the fog as a cat and he has a haiku-like atmosphere, doesn’t he? I would question the line: “on silent haunches”, perhaps – what are noisy haunches?? Presumably it means silently, on haunches but, hey, it’s fun to pull up established writers, right 😉
Exactly!
(“Noisy haunches” makes me giggle a bit.) 😉
…speaking of established writers, the daily Issa recently have been beautiful, hey 🙂
They sure have! 😀
