a star’s journey
distant is the sly caress
she shared once

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #842 Tanabata Festival, another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. Tanabata was inspired by the famous Chinese folk tale, “The Weaver Girl and the Cowherd”, a story in which two lovers are separated. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Patsy Cline –
Patsy Cline!!! 🙂
In making her caress “sly” you’ve added so many (troubling) layers to this haiku. Very intense. 🙂
I thought I’d included Patsy before, but apparently not. She does unrequited better than anyone 🙂
Thanks, Jen. Relationships are ripe with layers, right?
They sure are!
Beautifully written Blake. An extraordinary way to approach this Tanabata theme.
Thanks, Chèvrefeuille, I’m glad you enjoyed the haiku. It was such a great myth story to use for inspiration.
What a poignant mood there!
It was a very poignant tale that Chev posted, wasn’t it? Some of those myths are real heartbreakers!
I am learning so many stories, myths and history as well as writing haiku with Chèvrefeuille.
