Stars Without Lovers

stars without lovers

along this black path of the lost

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #834 Setsubun Mantoro (Lantern Festival), another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Roxy Music –

  1. As I read your haiku I debate, “stars embrace” or a “lost embrace” — such an ache, here, intensified by the choice of music! And the “black path of the lost” is one heck of an image. Pow. You’re the master of haiku that demand to be read several times. 🙂

    • Oo you’re right – ‘stars’ could link up with the ’embrace’ – I hadn’t noticed that! Another benefit of writing in a way that allows the interpretation to switch… and of having perceptive readers, of course 🙂

I heard a cover version of this song recently, which brought me back to the original and it fitted nicely – “wonder word ‘lonely'” 🙂

      • Every time I read a well-written haiku I can’t help but shuffle the lines, explore the way words link, sound it out loud, and so on. You give the reader plenty of opportunities to do this 😀
