a hiss of blue
waves welcome the coast deeper in
before parting

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #810 Aquila (Eagle), another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. Admittedly, there are no eagles in my haiku; instead I took inspiration from what Chèvrefeuille told us about the Japanese Festival on the 7th of the 7th month Tanabata, together with the haiku written by Basho about the Tanabata Festival, i.e.
Star Festival. On the 7th of Seventh Month, this festival celebrates the legend of the Shepherd Boy and Weaver Girl, represented as two stars, Altair and Vega. These two lovers are doomed to be separated by Heaven’s River (the Milky Way) all year except on this day, when magpies form a bridge with their wings.

autumn is truly here

Finally, to finish, here’s some trip hop from Portishead –
Nicely done — the hiss of blue adds to the mystery.
Great album, too 😉
I’ve been hankering for some more trip hop on Sweet FA and this is a corker! (I’m thinking that might not be a familiar term stateside? It sounds very 1950s England to me) 🙂
And thanks, Jen – I seem to be keen on a slow ‘unveiling’ through the 3 lines at the moment..
Not a standard phrase, but not unheard of either — so you’re okay 😉
The slow unveiling is working great 🙂
Well, you’ve watched lots of English sitcoms so you’re practically a native! (hmm I’ll have to get back to you as to whether that counts as a compliment or not..) 😉
LOL!
I’ll take it as a compliment 🙂
Very well and so beautifully written Blake … Tanabata will be also one of our prompts next month as we are celebrating our 3rd anniversary.
I love the idea of autumn and night being superposed… Nice one, dear Sue. All my best wishes. Aquileana 😀
Ah being a water person, I love this and read another layer underneath…nicely done!
