trickle, blood
from an old corner of a smile
ladybirds exit

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #783 Tentoumushi (Lady bug), another great prompt from Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Radiohead –

Ladybirds are decidedly dark and eerie, as we’ll all realise to our cost should we ever come back as aphids :S
I’m attracted to the “long leap” at the moment, image-wise (if that’s what it’s called??). Thanks, Jen!
They are -indeed-! And come to think of it … butterflies are kinda creepy up close too, aren’t they? 😉
I can’t think of the word for “long leap” but know what you mean — and you write those long leaps beautifully —
Up close, I think butterflies tend to resemble a type of alien, which is… cool 🙂
And thanks, Jen!
Very welcome 😉
interesting that you call the beasties “ladybirds” … this is a really mysterious haiku for me … kinda spooky.
Ladybirds just sounds so much more refined than ladybugs, don’t you think 😉
And a certain spookiness is definitely what I was aiming for here – just seeing if I could conjure that atmosphere in 3 lines around little ladybirds..
They certainly are … and makes one wonder about a certain president’s wife who was called that … you did a great job on this one and definitely achieved your goal I think.
