Great juxtaposition here, Blake – the beggar / wanderer ascended to the throne – or perhaps even flying in front of the sun — beautiful imagery 🙂
Exactly. I wanted each line to create an image that the following line undermines – another nice effect that the haiku design lends itself to 🙂
Although that opening line strays into simile territory (tut!). But hey, even your own rules have to be broken now and again, right? Thanks, Jen.
Ah well – one of the recent “Daily Issa” haiku had a simile, if I recall correctly. (Rules? What rules?) 😉
Very interesting to reexamine the lines and see the train of thought– the associations. 🙂
