wild horses
along this path once, playing
with loneliness

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Time Machine #7, Ancient Road, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s The Flying Burrito Brothers –
A beautiful response, Blake — one that stops me dead in my tracks. I admire your oh-so-elegant phrasing — ! — and you’ve left the haiku open enough to allow for so many shades of meaning. Have always found this song moving, too — so it’s a perfect post, really. 🙂
Oh that’s nice. Especially since your phrasing is always so good in your poems. whether haiku or other forms 🙂 Thanks, Jen.
I must admit I quite like how, if you play the 1st line/3rd line switch here, the haiku possibly changes from being about horses to being about someone listening to this song – which is one of the most sadly tender and beautiful of all songs, I’d say.
Oh, I agree with you on the song 🙂
And the comment was turning into another gushing novel (sorry about that!) — but yes — I was enjoying how the interchangeable lines added to the layers. 😀
Nice verse.
