hours of rain
left all the grey clouds at last
sparkling in birdsong
###
This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Haiku Writing Techniques #8, Karumi (Lightness), another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. Karumi is a haiku concept that was devised by Basho and can be described as “lightness, simplicity, becoming one with the experience you have on that moment when you are composing your haiku.” All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Willie Nelson, with Captain and Tennille (honest!) –
Willie!!! Yay! This song is second only to “Angel Flying too Close to the Ground” 😉
Love the “sparkling in birdsong” – a wonderful, hopeful feel to it. Read this one several times — not your usual style but I do like it very much. 🙂
I’ll have to have another listen to “Angel Flying too Close to the Ground” but this is pretty perfect. And don’t you think that Willie is very karumi here? 🙂
No, this is me trying to get comfortable with karumi. I’m always keen to avoid overwriting in haiku (although a couple lately have gone a bit “literary”), but then I still feel a bit wary of lines that feel “too” simple… Still finding that balance.
And this is what walking to the shop was like yesterday, after hours of rain – the birds seemed determined to make up for lost time, bless ’em 😉
Oh yes — very karumi! And somehow this reminds me of some literature term papers in college: “Willie Nelson and Karumi: A Study in Lightness”. 😉
It IS quite a fine line though — will take a lot of practice for all of us, I think.
When my brother visited Tennessee he brought me back a Willie Nelson headband, complete with attached pigtails, from the WN shop. Who knew such things existed?! 🙂
Awwww! I WANT one!!! NICE!
Well, I’m not going to pretend – it’s a fairly tricky look to be rockin’, yes indeed! :-$
Attitude. It’s all a matter of attitude. 😉
As Chris has said to the Girlgoyle on occasion, you gotta own it 🙂
Own it, baby! Own it! 🙂
This made me smile 🙂
I can almost feel the rain pouring down right now!… Great poem, Sue ⭐ All the best to you!, Aquileana 😀
Thanks, dear Aquileana! I’m glad you enjoyed the poem 🙂 Although, for me, I’ve been able to look out of the window and see the rain pouring down for most of the day… ah England! 😛
Such a fresh feeling of rebirth after a rain!
Yes, now that there’s an occasional hint of spring in the air we do get a feeling of freshness after the rain clears – even the birds revel in it 🙂
I think if it rained here it would mean flooding…I’ll just be happy for some melting next week at least…still double digits below zero, so I may as well be realistic.
Double digits below zero?! Oh wow 😦 And we moan about the weather over here..
Here’s hoping it warms up soon, gradually enough not to cause too many issues. Till then, stay safe and stay snug when you can 🙂
during the day it was a balmy -5 which is awesome actually…so things seem to be looking up…I am positive spring is soon:)
A “balmy” minus 5… Now that’s what I call positive thinking! But you’re right, soon spring – hey, all those haiku can’t be wrong 🙂
So true, I’m in heaven with this weather:)
