A Whirl


a whirl awhile

the weary ballet dancer lands

in a puff of dust


This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #673, Rehearsal, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, which gave Edgar Degas’ painting “Dance Rehearsal in the Studio of the Opera” as our inspiration.     • Thanks, Rachel. I had to include Tiny Dancer here because it fits so perfectly; plus, I was debating with my brother a while ago whether the song was good or not – I said yes, he said no. So, this was a chance to prove I was right! 😉

    • All that dust, all those germs, and those poor girls jumping around wearing a scanty bit of a thing that wouldn’t cover the head of a goose… they’ll catch their deaths! 😦
