jangling sun
dances round bare feet in summer
a dropped tambourine

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem #672, Summertime, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, which gave Rihard Jakopič’s painting “Sonce” as our inspiration. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Nina Simone –
Ooh….. I can feel this, hear this … as much as see it … and what a GREAT song to accompany it too. 😀
The picture you chose was so exuberant and full of spark that this song simply demanded to be included! Plus Nina has been on my list for a while, waiting for the right prompt..
And bright sunlight always seems to jangle to me. I think if the world was a pop group then sunshine would be on tambourine. Wispy clouds on oboe, possibly 🙂
Yay! Don’t you love it when the right moment appears for that song you’ve had on your mind/ in your heart? Glad you liked the painting 🙂
Sunshine on tambourine; wispy clouds on oboe; perhaps the blades of grass on teeny tiny triangles. Very experimental. I like it 😉
Ok let’s see if WP wants to let me reply today rather than leaving that little timer spinning round ‘n’ round…
A definite ‘yay’ for those prompts that arrive with a ready-made, much anticipated soundtrack 😉
You’re right – people often overlook the triangle, sadly; grass, too.. I want a song with a triangle solo! 😛
Or maybe a triangle duet — you and Will Ferrell, with Christopher Walken cheering you on! 😀
Yesterday’s “Actor” tanka prompt was perfect too — there’s a Moody Blues song called “the actor” — HAD to use it.
Is today any better, replying-wise?
I literally have no idea how you came up with Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken! A genius combo, though 😀
Replying is fine at the moment…
Oh, I’m not genius — just twisted! Was thinking about the “more cowbell” skit. 😀 Evidently SNL/YouTube keep pulling the full length videos. This was all I could find 🙂

“I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell!” That song does have the best, cow-belling, bar none 🙂
Actually, I can’t think of another song with it..
Me neither!
But I figured we couldn’t be the ONLY people wondering — ah, Internet: Ask and Ye Shall Receive!

I should have remembered the Jimi Hendrix one….!
And Honky Tonk Women.. but who knew that was a cowbell? It’s been an education!
That’s for sure!
The cowbell and the triangle — sadly underrepresented in pop and rock. Here’s to the brave pioneers! 😉
there’s something beautifully sensual in this haiku .. nice!
Thanks, Georgia. Like you, I was summoning memories of hot days amid the chilliness – and, even in a daydream, summer tickles the senses!
Isn’t that the truth … warms your heart!
I could do with it warming my feet! 😛
Ah … your imagination has to be really super to do that!
True, true… still some work to be done, then!
lol … not at all what I meant!
