This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Time Machine #4, Yellow, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, which gave Van Gogh’s painting “The Langlois Bridge at Arles with Women Washing” as our inspiration. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Suede –
You’re one of the few people to look at the horse in the painting — your haiku makes me feel sorry for the poor creature — urged on by that cool, clear water. 🙂
The life of a beast of burden, always waiting for the whip..again. A life of ease tantalisingly in view..
I heard his hooves clattering across the bridge and he sounded tired, poor chap; clearly the star of the scene 😉
And that’s one of the things I like so much about your haiku — you’re great at finding and honoring the unsung heroes 🙂
Oh I just try to find my little patch to work in 😉 In fact, it might well be something I picked up from you all that time ago…
Well, if that’s the case, “you’ve done well, grasshopper” 🙂

Thank you, sifu! (which I’m fairly sure is a masculine word, but I don’t know the feminine kung fu equivalent) 😀
There probably isn’t a feminine equivalent – so – “sifu” is graciously accepted 😉
