late
a midnight train’s slow detour
passed police on the tracks

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Sparkling Stars #18, John Stevenson’s “the train”, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Jeff Buckley –
Lovely, I can feel the movement in this haiku.
I’m glad if there was something lovely in the haiku. Thanks 🙂
Wow. When you add this beautifully eerie song to a dark haiku – the result is shivery. Beautifully done.
Yes, the song was chosen for whoever it was who jumped in front of a train that night and briefly closed the station. Nothing else seemed to fit, really.
Wow. That is so sad. So horribly sad.
I’d assumed it was an accident — knowing this makes it even more haunting. I’m so sorry. 😦
Yes, very sad. It was eerie riding slowly through the empty station on a train that doesn’t stop as planned, with police standing everywhere – the prompt reminded me of that night. Then having written the haiku I wasn’t sure whether to leave it without a song, but I think this one was fitting.
Yes — I know what you mean. so many times I’ve picked a song only to cut it at the last moment because it suddenly seems inappropriate. In this case though it is a fitting tribute / remembrance.
That night sounds like the times I’d drive the Interstate home; suddenly finding yourself at a standstill in the darkness with those blue and red lights everywhere. That sickening feeling.
