witches stir
a cold cauldron of winter
fog from white lakes
###
This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Time Glass #21, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s Donovan –
Oh, very nice! A cold winter fog really does seem like a cold witches’ brew. [brrrr!]
Loved the addition of Donovan 🙂
Sunshine Superman almost made an appearance a while back, but then I might have edited the sun from the haiku in the end 😛
In November I walked past the lakes near me as it grew dark and white fog was swirling up from the water – it was so specific to the water that it seemed a bit eerie. So, I made a note 🙂
Yay! Keep taking those notes — so glad you were able to make a ku out of that awesome moment!! 😀
I find it quite soothing now – when I find myself in a tedious situation, with time a-wasting, I think “there must be a 5-7-5 to be seen here somewhere..”
Wait till you fall asleep composing in 5/7/5 …. or perhaps you do that already? o.O
But yes …. those haiku moments are everywhere if you look hard enough. Sometimes wrangling that moment into the proper syllable count is a real bear though!
No, I’m not at that stage yet… and I never will… I can handle it 😉
Wrangling an unruly bear in a little boat – exactly!
Wear your raincoat and overshoes! LOL
Or… choose a bigger boat!
Or…… wrangle a smaller bear!!
Sorry, just thinking out loud 😛
Haiku’s about the smallest bear you’re gonna find, LOL!
The haiku is the boat. The bear is… ineffable [said with a mysterious narrowing of the eyes] 😉
Oh dear.
Maybe that’s my problem. I keep mixing up my bears and my boats.
That sounds like a great poem doesn’t it? “Of bears and boats”. Or a good one-liner for the dungeon “about” page, which has undergone a redecoration.
No red curtains yet though, sadly.
[feeling unsettled by those narrowed eyes]
That does sound like an intriguing poem for the GG to get her teeth into..
The new dungeon page looks mighty fine – just needs those red curtains to peep through… a snake charmer, maybe… a lion or two 🙂
Thanks Blake … 🙂
Actually, I was thinking of cheetahs, à la Bettie Page 🙂
Hmm I don’t remember seeing Bettie with cheetahs – so I’ve had to google it, for research purposes.. 😉
Oh, RESEARCH! Absolutely!!!! LOL
[“bunny yeager” “bettie page” cheetah] — that’s your Google search, friend. 😉
Hey I never said the research was a chore, particularly 😀
LOL!!!!
Hey – you’ve got *writing* to do, friend!
Don’t want you got get lost in that research 😉
Wise words, Jen, wise words 😉
Love it – very creative 🙂
Thanks, Birgitta. I suppose thick fog naturally starts the imagination working…
Great haiku! Very Macbeth
Now that you mention it… I’ve been quite heavily involved with Shakespeare recently, but I’d overlooked the obvious influence here. So, thanks 🙂
Cold cauldron of winter…I like that.
Thanks, The cold cauldron was the last piece to be added, so I’m glad you liked it.
Awesome I like the Wiccan idea behind this haiku Blake
Thanks, Chèvrefeuille. Oh it looked like a scene from an old Hammer horror movie – perfect witch weather 😉
