in orange clouds
bare black branches drift an inch
to sway back
the day’s debris
set adrift in orange clouds
turning darker
such hypnosis
in a sea of orange clouds
so we sail

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem’s Time Machine #1, Orange, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here are the Staples Singers with a song called “Uncloudy Day”, which seems to contradict the haiku but it has exactly the right vibe 🙂
The reverb IS kind of hypnotic, isn’t it? Sailing away in those orange clouds — what a lovely thought! 😀
It is – I hadn’t heard the song before since I only knew the Staples Singers from their Stax period, but this just felt like it should have been playing as I was gazing at that sky 🙂
