Meekly Leashed

meekly leashed

spaniel eyes telling stories –

roar of an aircraft

This poem was written in response to Carpe Diem Haiku Writing Techniques #1, Juxtaposition, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here. And, to finish, here’s a song from our resident canine expert –

    • Thanks, Chèvrefeuille. I found the prompt quite tricky, having practised trying to link the images closely till now. A very useful technique to explore 🙂

  1. “It’s IGGY!” she squealed.
Any post with Iggy gets the official BIOLI Seal of Approval!

But on a serious note, the juxtaposition between the spaniel eyes and the jet roar — brilliant. It would be a startling moment in real life.

But again …. so MANY interpretations here … hmmmm…. 😉

    • Ah huh thought I’d go for an easy Seal of Approval here 😉 It still seems odd that, with your extensive and high quality musical tastes, you didn’t know Iggy until recently!

And it was startling in real life – as I was pondering juxtapositions I exited a shop and passed an old lady who was reassuring her little dog as she tied it up, to wait – soft eyes staring up, then an enormous roar overhead – ‘hmm..’ I thought.

Then there was lots of honing to allow other interpretations 🙂

      • Great story behind the haiku — always feel so sorry for doggies being tied up to wait outside. Poor frightened little things! o.O Really though – you captured a wonderfully sensitive moment. But, oh, those deliciously naughty undertones! 😉

And yes — I’m deeply ashamed of my IGGY-norance. (See what I did there? Wink wink!) [Oh dear.] Making up for lost time though. Feel free to delete this link —

      • Well, I’ll keep the link if I can delete the pun?! 😛

But I suppose you owed me that since I seem to remember accidentally making an appalling pun of some kind a few days ago, which I’ve fortunately entirely forgotten! 🙂

      • But surely the pun was the best part? (Just kidding. It wasn’t. It was horrible!!!)

Really though, if/when you want to delete links feel free. One of my pet peeves is the perpetual-self-promoter who needs to leave a link to their haiku-du-jour everywhere they go. Sharing every now and then is okay – but don’t want to overdo it. o.O

      • It was a gloriously, deliriously cringe-worthy pun! Which is kind of the point of a pun, right. Thanks for sharing, Jen 😛

And your links are fine 🙂
