In this absence
Of a particular pulse
The moonlight drags ghosts
###
This poem was written for Carpe Diem Special #118, Tomas Tranströmer’s fourth “in time with the moon”, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here.
The moonlight dragging ghosts — a very eerie but strangely vivid image! So much room for interpretation too, in the pulse’s absence. Hmmmm……
Very nice 🙂
Thanks, Jen. This was written ever so quickly before the link closed and it seems to have given me an image of lonely reminiscence, perhaps…
Sometimes those quickly glimpsed impressions make for wonderful writing, in my opinion — perhaps they’re hints from our muses — whispers we ignore, or verses to which we reply, “well, it could be *better*, right?”
Yes, I tend to feel a bit uneasy if something arrives too quickly – I look at it and think, well this word could change.. that word could change.. then there are four different versions, suddenly 😛
So, yes, sometimes better just to rush and say “pfft that’s done!” 😉
LOL!
After days and days of struggling, the “gift” poem seems just entirely too easy. Old habits are hard to break …..
Hiya, I didn’t borrow your dragging, honest 🙂
Never saw it until now. Great minds…..
Oh I know! When I read your haiku I like the “dragging”, as I said. Then I thought to myself “what did I write for this prompt?” (because I tend to mix up what haiku fits with which prompt), so I checked my post and thought “aah… maybe it rang a bell” 🙂
