Horse Tails

Horse tails of spume

Trail speeding cars after

Autumn cloudbursts

This poem was written for Carpe Diem Ghost Writer #33, Richard Wright on Autumn by Jen of Blog It Or Lose It, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. In this post we were asked to write a late-autumn haiku (in Richard Wright’s style and tone) showing a relationship between man’s realm and nature’s realm. This was my attempt and all of the poems in the link-up can be read here. While the horse’s starring role in the haiku seems like the perfect excuse for some Patti Smith.

  1. Oh, very cool! I can see and hear those horse tails of spume — never saw them as horse tails before — but now that you’ve mentioned it, the image will stick forever. That’s one of the great things about haiku, isn’t it?

Enjoyed the dose of Patti Smith too 😉

    • No, I’d never seen them like that either, until 11 am today as I looked down at the cars on the motorway after that sudden cloudburst had cleared – and there they were 🙂

Yes, after posting this I got a bit distracted on Youtube, browsing through some classic Patti clips..

      • Ah. Don’t feel bad! I got so distracted looking for clips for Agent Cooper and Bluebottle Bob!

What a great haiku moment you’ve captured — a gift from your muse, that’s for sure!
