Flow of swallows
With better places to be –
Envy’s a bad sign
###
This poem was written for Carpe Diem “Little Creatures” #11, “A Swallow” by Issa, another great prompt hosted by Chèvrefeuille at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai. All of the poems in the link-up can be read here.
A flow of swallows is a wonderful phrase — flow of swallows, flow of swallows — from now on I’ll be seeing birds in flows! Envy may be a bad sign but don’t we all envy them at some point?

It just so happened that a couple of flocks of birds were doing that thing of congregating and dispersing, quickly, overhead, and it had a flow to it. Probably weren’t swallows, though – but that was the prompt and also the best phrase 😉
We’re artists (pronounced “arTEESTS”) — so we’re allowed to substitute a better bird if need be. 🙂

…. for some odd reason an old Mamas and Papas song is coming to mind … I can hear Mama Cass wailing “take us away … somebody take us away…”
