    • Although… as I’m reading Jane Reichhold’s very useful ebook I find that “wind’s applause” might be a bit of “personifying.” But hey, the wind can sound like applause… plus I find that one of Basho’s haiku was in the past tense! I was shocked. It’s anarchy 🙂

      • Hey, like Basho himself said: learn the rules then ignore them. You’ll find all kinds of instances where Basho and Buson and Issa (and, dare I say it, even Shiki?) broke the rules.

        And people can say what they want about personifying — they say it’s projecting humankind on nature – but I see it was empathizing and being at one with nature.

        So there. 🙂
