Hippy Trippy Schadenfreude

“Assembly line of existence whirring on and on, units of humanity rising and falling along the way – punching in, punching out, punching in, punching out…”

“Whole cosmos embraced mass production and planets end up consumed like all the rest.”

“Oh man, homo consumeia!”

“Henry Ford!  See his beady little eyes seething, glaring out from the grill of that old abandoned truck that stinks like piss and depleted ozone.”

“Yeah.  Weeds and thorns and nettles sprouting up inside his entrails.  Gnawing family of rodents burrowing deep, deep, making their home inside his rectum.”

“Karma’s a bitch.  Love it!”

This piece of flash fiction was written for Friday Fictioneers: a story in 100 words prompted by a picture that Rochelle Wisoff-Fields posts every Wednesday. Here’s the link to the stories and this week’s picture is below, copyright Roger Bultot.

  1. It’s not the car that has caused all the damage, it’s the fuel source – and hopefully, they will find a clean alternative to fossil fuel some day. Maybe tomorrow? Good story! Nan 🙂

    • Glad you liked the story 🙂 Yes, maybe tomorrow there will be a clean fuel… wonder how the oil companies will greet the news, and all their pet politicians…?

    • I read a bit about Henry to get myself in the mood for the story, but hadn’t come across Fordlandia. So, thanks for pointing me in that direction – the sheer hubris of it was very entertaining 🙂

    • I read BNW ages ago and hadn’t remembered that Ford became divine. Hmm… the rectum of a rusty truck or a brave new god, it can be such a fine line where karma is concerned!

    • Yes, because of the word limit I needed to try to capture the characters purely through dialogue, without descriptions. It’s one of the interesting challenges about the writing prompts sometimes, so I’m glad it worked ok 🙂
